First post in over a month

First post in over a month! I figured I'd try and get back into the swich of keeping this thing up to day, so here's to trying...

Computer upgrade!

Well, it's springtime and it's been almost 1.5 years since the last upgrade, so I figured it was time. Here's what I got:

AMD Athlon X2 3800+
512DDR400 memory (to bring my system to 1.5GB)
Asus A8N-SLI
BFG Geforce 7800GT

After playing with the new set up for a few days I have to say that this system totally kicks some major butt! So far I have yet to encounter a game that doesn't run totally smoothly on this system, games I've tried so far are

Quake 4 1.1beta: 1280x1024 high quality graphics 8x antiscopic filtering 4x AA ~78FPS
Doom 3 1.3: 1280x1024 high quality graphics 8x antiscopic filtering 4x AA ~78FPS
Half Life 2: 1280x1024 high quality graphics 16x antiscopic filtering 4x AA ??FPS (can't bench yet)
*update* I was able to run a demo for HL2 the lost coast at those graphics settings. I got about 70FPS.
UT 2004 all eye candy on, no FPS but I can say game play is silky smooth and responsive.

One small caviot with the new set up. Apparently dual channel memory requires that all DIMMs be exactly the same, i.e. same model. I don't have that, so I'm running single channel still. So eventually I'll have to upgrade my memory to 2GB with 2 of the same DIMMs.

In other news:
Looks like I'm going to go to Raleigh NC for a nice little visit, should be fun. I'll get to see a couple friends there that I havent' seen in a couple years now so it should be a whole big bunch of fun! I'll update again after my trip!
